Tamsin Johnson: Contrast, Space, Harmony

This captivating new volume, the follow-up to Johnson’s beloved Spaces for Living, offers an inside look at her latest projects-spaces that seamlessly blend sophistication, comfort, and individuality.

At the heart of her approach is a deep appreciation for antiques and flair for combining pieces from across decades and continents. Sourcing antiques from around the world, she expertly layers them into contemporary settings, creating homes rich with history, character, and a sense of the unexpected. Whether it’s an eighteenth-century French commode juxtaposed with minimalist artwork or a vintage chandelier lending warmth to a sleek, modern space, Johnson’s eye for contrast and harmony makes every interior uniquely compelling.

From laid-back, beachy urban residences to sun-drenched coastal retreats, Johnson’s new book offers an intimate look at both how she crafts environments that are as livable as they are beautiful and how she works with antiques to add texture and narrative to rooms. Featuring never-before-seen projects, expert design insights, and breathtaking photography, this book is an essential resource for design lovers seeking inspiration on how to bring depth, character, and a sense of narrative to their own home. With her signature mix of curated finds, bespoke furnishings, and bold artistic choices, Johnson offers readers a masterclass in how to create spaces that feel both collected and deeply personal.

About the Contributors

The child of an antiques dealer, Melbourne-born Tamsin Johnson grew up surrounded by beautiful pieces and learned two important ground rules early on: good pieces will always be good and never overlook the value of comfort. After studying interior design at London’s Inchbald School of Design and working with a Sydney design firm for several years, Johnson set up her own practice in 2013, working from her office and showroom in Paddington, Sydney. Today, Tamsin Johnson Interior Design has projects in New York, Paris, London and across Australia, where she reinvents existing spaces and creates new ones that continue to surprise and delight.
